This section identifies the key requirements for an effective and successful assessment regime. It proposes an alternative to replace an OFSTED that is widely perceived to have failed in its requirement to maintain and support educational standards in schools, to the detriment of the quality of education provided to children.
The proposals below are taken from the Beyond OFSTED report written by UCL.
Every school will conduct its own self-evaluation which it will report to stakeholders. Its purpose is to enhance schools' capacity for self-improvement and to increase transparency
Schools work with an external school improvement partner, delivering an action plan, informed by the school's self-evaluation
Safeguarding audits will be conducted annually by a separate, independent body.
Under the new system, inspectors will focus attention on the governance of, and capacity for, school improvement.
The inspectorate will be fully independent of government, with an uncompromised capacity to assess the impact of government policy on education.
